Statement of Purpose

Bluewater Christian Camp is a nondenominational camp, founded on Bible teaching, for youth on Prince of Wales Island and all of Southeast Alaska.  Our aim is to provide an opportunity for more of our Prince of Wales youth to go to a Christian camp.  We need one that is nearby and easy to get to, so that travel time and expense can be cut down.  Lower travel costs will also make it easier on parents and chaperones.

Bluewater is located on Coffman Island in Coffman Cove.  It is not ready to use yet.  You can help with donations of auction items, materials, money, your time, and your prayers that the Camp will be completed in God's time.

Progress Report

Bluewater Christian Camp is incorporated.  It is under the direction of a Board and a Council.  There are seven board members who rotate off on a set schedule.  The Council is currently being formed, with one member from each participating church or fellowship.

8.8 acres of land on Coffman Island has been leased from the City of Coffman Cove on a five-year lease/option.  Part of the lease applies to the principle when the purchase option is exercised with a ten-year, 10% interest, purchase agreement between Bluewater Christian Camp and the City of Coffman Cove.

The land has been surveyed at no cost to the Camp, because the service was donated.  It has also been appraised -- another donated service.

The paperwork is in process for a dock and sewer outfall; these items are required by the State of Alaska.

Cabin plans are in the making.  Some logs have been donated, and will be sawed into lumber.

A full-sized commercial kitchen with appliances has been purchased at a very reasonable price.

Cookhouse and bunkhouse usage has been donated, including the tow to Bluewater campsite, for summer work crews.

Thanks to all the crews who have volunteered their time and hard work!  A lot of work was done on the boardwalk, which was greatly appreciated!  For you who haven't been to the Island:  much of our ground is swampy (which is called "muskeg" here), so boardwalks are used instead of rock paths or concrete sidewalks.

Supplies Needed

Nails; more logs to be sawed for building; concrete for building blocks; sewer-line pipe; plumbing supplies of all kinds; wiring; windows; doors; people to pack supplies to the building site.

Fund-raising

We are forming a fundraising committee and would like some of your ideas.  If you would like to make a donation or be on the committee, please contact us.  You may call one of the Board members listed below.

                      Dean & Nadine Blankenship, (907) 828-3413

                      Keith & Cheryl Webb, (907) 755-2516
                      Elaine Price, (907) 329-2232

God has already opened so many doors that we are confident He will continue to fill needs and work with the communities to complete what He has started.  Please be open to what He will ask you to do for Bluewater Christian Camp.
