Hello to you all!  Thank you for your prayers.  I am healing from the accident and in Greenville, TX.  I am getting stronger everyday and looking forward to getting a car soon.  God is so good to give me such a wonderful family in HIM that have been praying for me.  And many have been helping me at this time.  I cannot thank the Lord nor you all enough.  God bless each of you.  ~Dasie

Thursday, July 9, 2009 - Note from Dasie in Texas:  Today I got my phone and Internet working, so I can call and make faxes. The phone number at my cabin is 903-454-8583.  I am feeling better each day but still very sore. Dr. said for me to see another Dr. when I got to TX but I need my records from Canada before I do that. My family was glad for me to get here, and it is good to be here.  ~Dasie

Friday, July 3, 2009, note from Alesha:  "Mom is traveling by train (with her friend from Redmond WA); she made it to Chicago last night and is heading out from there this afternoon, she should finally be in Texas, on Saturday."

Friday, June 25:  "I am now in Redmond, Washington.  Rode the bus to here; was very sore after travel, so yesterday I just laid around. First time I did that since I got out of hospital. Feeling much better today.  Too much of the rest of the whole trip to do the bus. The bus on USA side has less space for legs and seats are not soft like the British Columbia bus was.  But glad I took the bus this far!

"Soon I hope to go on to Texas.  My friend Lynn here wants me to see a doctor before I travel again.  She's talked with the doctor already and they want to make sure no blood clots have formed.  I really want to get going, but Lynn thinks I need to rest here a week at least before I go on.  But I want to get home ... well, I am praying about it.  Might have to wait anyway because Amtrak does not run every day.  I have to find out the schedule... hope I can do that today.  Tell everyone that I am improving daily and for people to keep praying for me.

"Thanks for all the prayers and thanks to those that are helping me out!" ~Dasie

Friday, June 19 from Marge Marshall (the webmaster), a note from Dasie herself!  "Good to know you are praying...keep praying!  I am much better. At last I am on e-mail with school teacher's computer. Won't get it long as she is always on it when she is not kicked off. She's looking for a job. I am now looking for a way to Prince George, BC. After this Saturday I can travel by train. If I can get to Prince George I can go from there to Seattle by train. Then after a day or two in Seattle I could go to TX by train.  I am so ready to get going. Thanks for praying. Love and prayers, Dasie."

Thursday, June 18, from Alesha on Facebook:  "Dasie reports that she is feeling stronger and better and wants to be on her way to Texas. We keep reminding her take it slow and do not overdo anything."

More about the injuries from the wreck: "Dasie has a punctured lung, multiple fractured ribs and a very badly bruised spleen. She lost a lot of blood and had to receive blood products. She also had a large number of scrapes and contusions - many of the them were on her face from the airbag. Nancy Ferguson has a sore knee and is banged up a little but had no major injuries."

Tuesday, June 16  Alesha's note on Facebook:  "Looks like I may be flying to Washington State and then bringing mom home by train."

Date: Fri, 12 Jun  New update, yesterday Steve went and retrieved what could be rescued of Mom's things from her car. Not much was salvageable. Her laptop is okay and he now has her suitcase and her Bible, along with some DVD's she had with her. He pulled her vacuum cleaner from the car but does not know if it will work. He will test it and then decide if it should be kept or trashed. He said that the car looked very smashed. He has not spoken to Mom yet today as the visiting hours do not start until noon, however she has now been moved to a room and released from ICU, this is a good sign. She is in room 209.  Steve was able to retrieve her surviving belongings from Toad River so she now has them with her. ~Alesha

Good news from Steven:  Date: Thu, 11 June  Hi, another update, Dasie was looking much better this a.m., and they let her have solid food for the first time since the accident, but they are going to be draining fluid off her lungs tonight.  I will be trying to get a rental car to drive to Ft. Nelson to retrieve her luggage and some of her things tomorrow, so I probably won't have any more updates until late pm.

June 10, 1:30pm - Dasie seems stronger today, she still can't eat anything solid but the swelling is continuing to go down.  They haven't had to give her any more blood, but she is still on an IV and oxygen.  Her pulse and respirations are coming down and her BP is good.  I hope to be able to rent a car tomorrow a.m. and drive to Fort Nelson (4hrs from here) to pick up her stuff.  ~Steven

Update, Wednesday June 10 - Alesha says "Dasie should get out of ICU in a day or two and out of the hospital by Monday. She has received a lot of nice flowers, but they are not allowed in the ICU. She is doing better but it will be 8 weeks before she can fly, so we will have to get her to Texas with a long slow drive."

Date: Tuesday, June 9   Hi everyone, just an update on Dasie. She is doing better, swelling is going down. New x-rays today didn't show any new problems and showed improvement in contusions around ribs and spleen. The Dr says she will need to see a neurologist when she gets to Texas, he doesn't see any real neurological damage, but her left eye appears lazier than usual and she has more trouble keeping it open and focusing with it than with her other eye.

He also says there is no way she can fly for at least six and probably eight weeks due to the hole in her lung. She should be able to be transported by car in another week to 10 days if nothing else goes wrong and she continues to improve, but says she will still need lots of rest and should probably only be transported about 200 miles per day and that it will be important to drive carefully and avoid rough roads and potholes.

She should get out of ICU in a day or two and out of the hospital by Monday. She has received a lot of nice flowers, but they are not allowed in the ICU, so please tell everyone not to send any more.  She has a friend here in Fort Saint John, Irene, that she may be able to stay with for a week or two after she gets out of the hospital.

Her cell should work when she gets out of the hospital, I am switching it to a plan that allows calls to/from Canada for only .20 per minute, and she will have a phone card if you leave a short message for her to call back, but until she gets out of the hospital she can't use the cell.  Steven Daugherty

Dasie Daugherty was injured in an automobile accident Saturday, June 6th as she was enroute from Anchorage to Texas. Her daughter Alesha Ferguson’s mother-in-law, Nancy Ferguson, was traveling with Dasie. As of today, Dasie is resting comfortably and she doesn’t know when she’ll be released from the hospital in Fort St. John in British Columbia. The phone number there is 1-250-262-5200.

By now Dasie’s son Steven Daugherty of Anchorage has arrived in Fort St. John and Mrs. Ferguson (who was not seriously injured) is flying home to Arkansas.

Apparently the accident happened near Toad River on Highway 97 (the Al-Can Highway) when Dasie passed out and her car hit an RV; her car was totaled.  Dasie had developed pneumonia but didn’t realize it.  When the ladies were taken to the hospital in Fort Nelson, BC, the doctors found not only that Dasie had pneumonia, but also cracked ribs, a punctured lung and possible damage to her spleen.  So she was Med-Evac’ed to the larger hospital in Fort. St. John, where she is in ICU.

The Alaska District Office of the Assemblies of God is keeping up with Dasie’s situation and sent out this prayer request:
-----
“Dasie is in stable condition. She will be in the hospital for several more days. The Drs. are telling her that it will be 2 weeks before she can drive and 8 weeks before she will be able to fly home. Be in prayer for her recovery as well as for figuring out her travel and housing arrangements.  The District has offered to help with expenses to get Dasie home to Texas. If you would like contribute to her medical expenses and other related expenses, please send it to the Alaska District Office and we will make sure it gets to her. Please make sure you clearly mark the designation. Thank you, Judy Lindsay   receptionist@alaskaag.org

If you would like to help Dasie with these unexpected expenses, you may also use the information at the end of this page; on the memo line of your check please write Dasie Daugherty 261734-09 – Special/Personal.

Note from the Webmaster: I will keep this page up-to-date as I receive more news. I communicate with Alesha Ferguson using Facebook.com, and Jim Mercer in Anchorage helps as well.  ~Marge Marshall in Kansas City, KS   margemarshall@yahoo.com
