I collect teapots, but rarely drink tea because I like coffee.

The Seaton Kids reunion was held in Lyons, Kansas June 4-5, 2010.  We had a lot of fun visiting, reminiscing, joking and singing.  All 5 of us "kids" were there and each of us had one of our children there, plus several "in-laws" ...and a few grandkids and great-grands, who kept things very lively.  We took lots of pictures and ate a lot of good food!  The songs we sang were favorites of Dad and Mom Seaton.

Thanks for stopping by to visit us!  We're retirees who live in Kansas City, Kansas USA.  We hail from Lyons KS, in the center of the state, but we left home when we married in 1952 - well, Howard left in 1950 when he joined the Navy, and then I joined him.   We have a wonderful family, scattered around the country now.  Tour our retirement home here

Through the years Howard has been the pastor of a few Assemblies of God churches, including one in southeast Alaska; I'm a retiree from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.  Nowadays he volunteers at Gracious Promise Foundation and I enjoy creating websites.  I hope you'll have the time to look through some of them as well as reading about our adventures!  ~Marge

Pictures of my husband through the years on the occasion of his 79th birthday.  AND pictures of the two of us through the years

Howard's paintings are now on-line.  He says he might be persuaded to sell some of them if he's offered enough money.

See a slideshow about Howard's ministry in Alaska.  There are other slideshows you're welcome to view.

Past History

Updated 7-Nov-11

Howard and I have three children, Larry, Janet and David.   Janet lives in Kansas City, Kansas.  David lives in Alpine, Texas  Larry lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The October highlight in "ABQ" is the Balloon Fiesta

Our seven grandchildren are Kari; Jason; Jami; Miranda; Tasso; Branin; and Halee.  Our beautiful great-granddaughters are Jacey, Jaden and Josie, and our handsome great-grandsons are Justen, Hunter, Jaxen, Jacob, and Landen.

We had a family reunion in December 2003 into January 2004.  It has been the only time we've all been together.  The men did a waffle bake-off.  It was all a lot of fun (and the waffles were delicious).

Our youngest grandson, Branin Marshall, has received his high school diploma.  He gave an excellent speech, and I've made a web page to share it at www.spaciousskies.us/Branin/.  Now that our youngest grandchild, granddaughter Halee, is also a high school graduate, here's her page: www.spaciousskies.us/Morningstar/.

One of our grandchildren is in heaven; Dina, our special angel, has her wings now.

My brothers, sister, and I were blessed with great parents.  I've designed a web page for each of them.

PRINCE OF WALES ISLAND stuff.  Labor Day 1997, David and his family, our daughter, Janet, Howard and I all visited a float house near the Naukati logging camp, northwest of Klawock.  It was a great experience.   Several of our friends host a Bed & Breakfast or an Inn.  In CraigLupine Pensión, Pauline Johnson;   In KlawockTrophy Inn, Don & Teresa Busse; Southeast Retreat, Jeff & Kellie Larson; Changing Tides Inn, Rob & Val Steward.   Check out the Prince of Wales Island Chamber of Commerce.

My pen-pal lives in Camberley, Surrey in England, (near London).   Kath and I have been writing to each other since 1947, and we had hoped to meet someday.  That finally came about and we had a delightful time visiting Kath & Norm and their family in the fall of 2002 (our 50th wedding anniversary year).

Someday, we'd like to travel to Athens, Greece to visit the other grandmother (Yia-Yia) of our grandson, Tasso.  We entertained Tasso and his grandparents in the summer of 2006 when they traveled from Greece to visit Tasso and his dad.  Vasilios and Tasso traveled to Athens for the 2004 Olympic summer games, an exciting time for them!

I have fun traveling vicariously by checking out what's happening in Washington DC, San Francisco and other places like New York City and San Diego.   When I want to know what's going on in Kansas City, I check The Kansas City STAR.     For Alaska news, check KTUU in Anchorage.  You'll find my favorite COMICS and other kinds of favorites at www.spaciousskies.us/favorites.html.

LAYNE'S HOSPITALITY HOME for Servicemen, San Diego, 1941-1975, during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam war. We do The Home News, a newsletter for former military personnel - U S Navy, Marines, Army and Air Force, men and women - and other people who went to the Home, and who knew Dad and Mom Rattan.   "O I care not what church you belong to...." I'm working on a book about the Hospitality Home (currently in its 7th draft). In April 1998, we attended a reunion in Branson, Missouri; 32 people came, from California to New Jersey.

Occasionally I take a trip on "Google Earth" and look around.  It makes me appreciate our high-speed Internet connection!  If you'd like to download it, go to http://google-earth.download-click.com/us/.

My e-mail friend in Algeria, North Africa is a young man named Youcef - nicknamed ucif.

I decided to try something new to me, creating a Blog.  You'll find it at http://margesm.blogspot.com/

I have fun maintaining a web page for our friend, the Texas Tornado, and you never know what you'll find there next!

One of the neat things about surfing the 'Net is finding sites with great photos.  Here's a great one about lighthouses: Bill's Lighthouse Getaway.  You'll also like The Lighthouse Depot website.  I enjoy working with personal computers, and I tutor those who are intimidated by theirs.  I like to write, compute, surf the 'Net, sing,  and listen to classical music.  I like old houses, too; my favorite TV channel is Home and Garden TV.

The Santa Fe Trail was near our home town.

Howard and I are both graduates of Lyons High School in Lyons, Kansas.  See www.lyonsalumni.com.  Howard and my brother Carl Seaton graduated in 1950.  I graduated in 1952.  It's nice that Howard and I graduated from the same school, so we know the same people.  I've made a page about my friend Delorse Robinson Carter and me; it has some LHS photos on it.

If this page looks like a resume, blame it on my background in Human Resources, Personnel, and Employee Benefits (smile)! I retired from KCK City Hall, which is now a part of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. It's not your ordinary government nowadays!  (No, not just because I retired!  We voters decided to change the system.)

Practical Servanthood, A Handbook for the First-Time Pastor, is ready for copying and mailing.  My consultant is, naturally, my husband, Howard.  We've tried to come up with practical, hands-on advice garnered from our many years of experience!  (grin)  If you'd like a copy,  please send us an e-mail.  At this time we're planning to give it away, asking only for reimbursement of the costs of copying and mailing it, $5.00.  To read an excerpt, click here.

We're each wearing a Yupik kuspukOur Alaska Adventures

Our Alaska adventures began in Hawaii, believe it or not!  Our younger son, David, was stationed aboard the submarine USS Tunny (SSN-682) in Pearl Harbor when he met Shannon Snider at church.  Shannon was from Ketchikan, Alaska, and had come to Hawaii to visit her cousin who was stationed there in the Army.  David and Shannon were married in 1984.  David served in the US Navy until he received his honorable discharge in 1993 and they moved to Ketchikan to live.

In 1992 they had been relocated from St. Joseph, Missouri to Charleston, South Carolina, and I traveled along with them to help entertain young Branin and Halee.  I used vacation time from my job.  In 1993 the Navy offered mid-level management personnel the opportunity to leave the service, and David accepted the offer.  When they came through Kansas City, I took my annual vacation and accompanied them to Ketchikan.  What a time the five of us had sailing into Alaska aboard the MV Malaspina ferry from Prince Rupert, Canada!  After a week or so, I flew home to Kansas City.
